Omega-Skinz -  Frequently Asked Questions

   Is OMEGA-SKINZ more rigid?
This is why the film feels more rigid for some wrappers.
To some wrappers, OMEGA-SKINZ feels more rigide and thicker compared to many standard wrap films. This is true, but is as soft as butter when made warm. This is our vision of how a wrap film should be. We wanted to make a film that can be stably stretched by a wrapper on boats and yachts without the film stretching unnecessarily in places you wouldn't want it to. On cars and motorbikes exactly the same. If a film is already naturally very soft, it will easily stretch and show discolouration on, for example, a bumper, near the edge of a bonnet or spoiler when it does not need to. With OMEGA-SKINZ, you simply heat the part you want to stretch and it wraps like butter in or over any shape. Also, the fact that our films consist of multiple casting layers makes the film slightly more rigid. And again: with heat, the rigidity is gone immediately.

   Is OMEGA-SKINZ thicker?
Yes. Most wrapping films are 85 microns and consist of one layer. OMEGA-SKINZ consists of two or even three layers; depending on the colour.

Does OMEGA-SKINZ consist of multiple layers?
Completely correct. There are two reasons for this. 1: We wanted a film that is constructed just like car paint; with the same effect as if it had a clear coat on it. This can be gloss or matt. So the film consists of a cast base layer with another cast top layer on top, which provides colour depth. So the film is cast, rolled up and then put back into the same machine to cast another layer on top. Some colours even have three(!) layers, because a colour pigment used is not opaque, for example. Think of the green and yellow colour pigments. In this case, the film is cast three times: 1st layer white, 2nd layer e.g. yellow, 3rd layer transparent.
Attention: all this makes the film thicker and slightly more rigid. But with heat, it is as soft as butter.

Why does OMEGA-SKINZ have a grey-coloured adhesive layer?
To ensure opacity and colour regardless of the colour of the substrate. Many films from other brands are thin and translucent. On a white car, for example, blue or yellow will then look completely different than on a black car. To avoid this, we use a grey adhesive layer so that the colour of the film is always guaranteed. The only disadvantage is that at the edge of the film, the grey glue colour may be visible. We have made the choice that the colour appearance is more important than the grey edge of the film.

It looks like some colours do no have air channels in the adhesive layer. Is this correct?
True, but they are there. This is the so-called Invisible Channel System (ICS™). These tiny air channels ensure that the air channels are not visible through the top layer of the film.
However, the installer should take into account that air cannot be moved as easily, because the smaller air channels cannot transport air as quickly and easily. Good pressing and overlapping squeegeeing is therefore advisable. We recommend the FlamingSlicer squeegee with the accompanying Wingman buffer. This ensures the right pressure.

Why do you (maybe) occasionally get a small air bubble underneath the film?
This can happen with the films with the ICS™ adhesive system. These are the super small invisible air channels. Air cannot get out as easily and as quickly during squeegeeing, and if you forget a small piece, you trap a bit of air between the parts that are already pressed in place. Air seeks a way out and collects, becoming a bubble of about 2-3mm. Note: do not try to rub it away! Around the bubble, the air channels are already closed. Just poke a small hole on the side of the bubble with a bubble pricker or your knife and then push it out. That’s all.

Small air bubbles cannot be rubbed away.
No, don't. Around the little bubble, the air channels are already closed so the air cannot be transported further into the surrounding channels. Just puncture the little bubble from the side with a bubble pricker or your knife. Then push it out.

   Avoid curling edges.
OMEGA-SKINZ can tend to curl at edges when there is tension in the film or it has not been properly post-heated. (Note: the post-heating temperature is 100 degrees. Not 90 degrees). So you need to take the tension out.
You can easily avoid this by keeping the last 2cm of the edge loose, warm it up well for a while to allow the film to relax, let it cool for a while and then squeegee it.

   Avoid glue lines.
Because of the special manufacturing process, you hardly get any glue lines. But if you do get them, it is due to the fact that you are already squeegeeing while the film is too hot. You will then get traces of your squeegee in the glue layer, which has become too soft due to the heat.
So make sure the film is cool while squeegeeing. Then you won't have any glue lines.

Why don't we have a standard colour fan.
Because we have a high quality ColourBook. This is of a higher standard than a simple fan. You throw a colour fan in a drawer with the other fans; the ColourBook is on the coffee table at the Bentley dealer.
We do not sell paint or simple colours and do not compare ourselves to other wrap films. OMEGA-SKINZ is for the high-end market.

Are matt wrap films more difficult to clean?
Yes, correct. This is not surprising, since a matt surface is actually porous (has small dimples). These dimples refract light, preventing it from reflecting like it does on a glossy surface. The more matt a surface, the more or deeper dimples.
Road dirt gets into the dimples and you can't get it out easily. Especially with the light matt colours of wrapping film, you will notice that they look dirty faster because it is more visible.
To prevent the matt film from getting dirty, you can treat it with a special wax for matt car paintwork.
__________________________________________________________

How do you get matt wrap films clean?
First of all, NEVER use a surface cleaner or degreaser such as benzene, thinner or turpentine! You will only rub the dirt up and down, deeper into the dimples of the film.
It is best to clean matt film with the SOTT Carwrap Film Cleaner, in combination with the special sponges. The cleaner is a slow soap and allows the dirt to loosen in the dimples. The special sponges pull the dirt out of the dimples and into the sponge. Spray the cleaner onto the film and make circular movements with the sponge. When you are satisfied with the result, rinse the surface with water and dry with a microfibre cloth. Also find the care instructions here

How should I clean textured carbon?
Dirt in textured films is normal and logical. Dirt (and especially during the winter months) gets into the small grooves. All carbon films and brushed films of all brands suffer from this.

Don't: use surface cleaner and a cloth. With this you only rub the dirt to another place and more in the grooves.
Do: The only things that work are a slow cleaner from SOTT and the special SOTT cleaning sponges.
These suck the dirt out of the grooves during circular motions.
Alternative: use Omega-Skinz OS-1917 or OS-1917S Elemento-6 or OS-1978 Dionero carbon. This film has no texture and cannot get dirt into grooves.
